Inara Serra
Inara is a companion. She rents a shuttle from Mal and uses it for her work. However on many occasions there have more than one or two sparks between these two characters. They've had heated arguments, though never shared an embrace or kiss. But the chemistry between them is obvious. Inara's feelings for Mal couldn't have been more obvious after Mal and Inara bumped into one another after Mal had shared the night with a friend of Inara's, Nandie. Inara broke down, and Mal finally learned that there might be something more between them. Though before anything could blossom Inara told Mal she was leaving the ship. Though after a few months of being off Serenity, Inara was thrown back into Mal's world when she got caught up with the Operative. Inara was forced to flee back onto Serenity with Mal and the rest of the crew. Through all what they had been through Inara wasn't ready to return to the training house and opted to stay on Serenity.
Yolanda/Saffron/Bridget
One drunken night Mal got married to Saffron, a somewhat meek girl. However Mal wasn't having anything to do with Saffron and wanted her off at their next stop. This almost worked, but one night Saffron seduced Mal and with one kiss Mal was lying unconscious on the floor of his room. Saffron turned out to be a trained rogue companion and had landed the crew of Serenity in a trap, and used a shuttle to escape. Mal eventually caught up to her and found out a bit of the truth, then left her. But that wasn't the last time the two would meet. They met a few months down the line, when Saffron was married to an old war buddy of Mal's. Mal set him straight and again was left with Saffron. She offered him a deal to steal a once in a life time relic. But again Mal was double crossed by this girl, but Inara saved the day and left Saffron where she belonged. In a trash can.
Nandie
A trained companion, turned into just a whore with her own house. She was a dear friend of Inara's and was in need of help, so Inara brought in Serenity and the crew. Mal and Nandie became close, and worked alongside each other to resolve Nandie's problem. They spent the night together. However Nandie was killed the next day, with a laser weapon at the hands of her enemy.
Zoë Warren
Wash
When Zoë first met Wash she didn't like him. There was something about him that put her off. But years down the line Zoë and Wash got married. Since they got married they have been in a loving relationship. Nothing seems to have rocked their boat, and sadly never will now.

On their first meeting there was no instant attraction between these two. But they got married and are deeply in love when we see them next. Wash says that it's Zoë's legs and the whole warrior woman thing she has that attracted him. The only thing that seemed to have had an effect on their marriage was Zoë's sense of loyalty towards Mal and the fact that Zoë wanted to have a child, regardless of whether they were aboard Serenity or not, and Wash wasn't too sure about having a child. However with Wash's death we'll never know what the future had in store for them.
Kaylee Frye
Bester
One of the first men we see Kaylee with. Having sex with him next to the engine of Serenity, before she's the mechanic on Serenity. But, in all honesty, the only reason she was with Bester was her love of engines and her want to get closer to Serenity's engine.
Simon Tam
Simon was one of the first passengers Mal and the crew took aboard Serenity at Persephone. He's a doctor and Kaylee had an instant attraction to him. At first the doctor was a bit gormless to Kaylee's feelings. Though when it was known a bit more he never seemed to be able to say the right thing to Kaylee. However eventually, in the face of certain death Simon was able to tell Kaylee his feelings.

Simon was a bit slow towards Kaylee's advances to him at first, but he eventually caught on. He was a bit reluctant, wanting to keep things proper but Kaylee managed to persuade him otherwise. Simon always had his sister, River, at his heart and wasn't able to think of anyone else for him. Though in the face of certain death he was able to tell Kaylee his true feelings towards her. And the rest, as they say, is history.

The chemistry between these two characters was obvious from the beginning, but both were reluctant to do anything about it. Inara, probably because of her work as a companion and Mal, well he was just being himself. Inara couldn't really admit to herself her feelings, but on the few occasions that Mal's life was at risk she was the first to think for him. Inara really found out her own feelings for Mal when she found out that he had spent the night with a friend of her's. She was torn up. The only thing she could think to do was to leave Serenity. Though she didn't stay away for long.
