This is somewhat old news but it gives me an excuse to update the Conventions of 2010 list.

Massive Events will be running their first ever Supernatural convention next year in September in Birmingham. The convention’s called Roadhouse and you can find more information on it at the website. Currently there’s only one guest lined up: Mark Rolston who played Alastair. I’m sure more guests will be announced as and when in the next few months.

I also forgot to add a list of the Wolf Events to the list I previously posted, so they’ll be included this time. They mostly specialise in Stargate related conventions.

Read on if you want to read the updated list of conventions for next year. I’ve tried to highlight the new ones on the list with a little *:

Stakes are at their highest, the boys are falling apart, Bobby’s deeply depressed and not much use and Castiel’s going on some, possible, wild good chase to find God. Oh and the Four Horseman are on their way causing the kind of chaos only they know how to. It’s looking good for the Winchesters then! Good God Y’all picks up exactly where Sympathy for the Devil left off with the dire situation not easing up. To make matters worse, old friends are in trouble and with Bobby out of commission it’s up to Sam and Dean to do their best while not being 100% themselves.

Supernatural keeps up the pace and doesn’t stop the pressure on the boys Winchester and keeps emphasizing the results of their actions – releasing Lucifer.

Supernatural’s first season staple episode was the stand alone episode – a job the boys go on, solve the problem and leave. Effectively this could be seen as the same kind of episode with the ongoing plot nicely woven through it. Take away the Fourth Horseman featured in the episode and replace him with a demon or spirit of some kind and you’ve got an episode that could happily sit in any season.

That’s not a negative though. I enjoyed the episode a lot and with the introduction of the Horseman it moves the plot along and it actually feels like we’re heading to the end of the world. There’s a sense of real pressure which is refreshing to see.

The main plot and how everything was unravelling was a tad predictable. Sure as an audience member you’re shown both sides of the story and as such you can put two and two together before the characters figure it out. But I like figuring things out as the characters figure them out. It feels like you’re on the same page. Saying that, figuring it out before makes you feel far more intelligent than the characters!

It was great to see Jo and Ellen again. I really have missed them. Ellen’s reaction to seeing Dean again was spot on and it felt like she’d never been anywhere else. It’s also interesting having Jo and Ellen as hunters as it shows how bad the situation has got, as neither of them were too ‘hot’ on being hunters. Especially after what Jo was put through; she really wasn’t keen at all to revisit being a hunter.

We’re seeing actual casualties now though. The residents of the town were completely innocent and drawn into the war out of no fault of their own. Feels like we’ll be seeing a lot more of that in the episodes to come.

The tension between Sam and Dean finally got to a point where there was only one option – they have to part ways. I didn’t think they would actually go through with it, but at the end of the episode seeing Sam drive away was heartbreaking! I can’t see how that relationship is going to get repaired, but it has to be. The Winchester boys only seem to work at their best together. I wonder how long they’ll be separated for.

Great episode and looking forward to seeing the other Horseman and what’s in store for Sam and Dean…. just bring them together again!

As today seems like a bit of a slow news today I thought it’d be a good day to talk about things I’ve been watching on TV; brand spanking new and returning shows.

True Blood
True Blood ended its second season run on Sunday night and wrapped up its Mary-Ann story quite nicely I thought. However I was still left wanting more from that plot line, even though I know that nothing more could have been stretched out from it.

The season was a good one for Sam. He really turned it around and I’m hoping he’s heading towards a happier season in season 3. Jason still remained the comic relief, to the end. After his time with religion. And Sookie I liked no more than I did when I started watching True Blood, and yet I’m still watching, so they must be doing something right.

There were some nice things cliffhangers which will keep me waiting impatiently for the next season: why in the hell is the vampire queen getting Eric to sell her blood? What really is up with Sookie and her weird, random ‘electric’ power? And what has happened to Bill? Well something to do with Eric I presume!

All in all, a brilliant new TV show that’s still a firm favourite for me.

Glee
I first watched the Glee pilot, way back when, with just a sense of curiousity about it. I knew practically nothing about it other than singing and high school and possible humour. After watching the pilot I had one of the biggest post TV show grins on my face that I’ve had in a very long time. It was just such a fun show! And with all the not so fun and entirely depressing things I tend to watch I thought it’d be nice to watch something with a bit of fun injected into it.

Two episodes in and I’ve no doubt that this is a show I’m just going to love more and more. It’s funny, fun and the songs are just amazing. Who knew Matthew Morrison could rap?

It’s just a great mix of the awkward teenage years, adults still dealing with their teenage years and singing I can’t help but love it.

Supernatural
Our boys are back and they’re as broody as ever! Things haven’t let up at all for the Winchester boys and things are getting more and more depressing for these two. It tears me up inside that the boys are stepping further apart from one another. Though with what they’ve been through the past couple of seasons it doesn’t surprise me.

Thank god Castiel’s back to help them out though. God knows how he is back and how the boys managed to escape from Lucifer himself.

Talking of Lucifer Mark Pellegrino’s popping up everywhere. Here he’s playing Lucifer’s vessel but I first saw him as Rita’s ex-husband in Dexter, but since then I’ve seen him in Chuck, Grey’s Anatomy, Lost and Burn Notice.

It’s awesome seeing the boys back. Forgot how much I missed Supernatural. I just hope it’s not all doom and gloom for them.

What shows are you watching at the moment? Any recommendations or things to stay away from completely?

Sentiments I completely agree with. Sure with Buffy season 8 there’s been a surge of new interest in all things Buffy. And now with the Buffy movie rumours everything’s surged again. However this rumour has been doing the rounds since God knows when, and yes people are interested, but I’ll believe it when I see a pilot.

As the title suggests, someone writes about not looking forward to a potential Buffy movie reboot. Really, their five reasons are so superficial it makes me wonder about the writer of the article.

More news from TVGuide on the upcoming new seasons. Interesting that they say that there could be more Supernatural past season 5 but without Eric Kripke. Well, that doesn’t sound good. And more things about Stargate: Universe that make me cringe.

Mixture of news for today, heavy on the Dollhouse as per usual but there’s some other interesting bits. Mostly news coming back from the Up Fronts taking place in the States.

» A Quick Chat with Dollhouse star Eliza Dushku
The usual Q&A’s with Eliza Dushku – nothing new in this interview.

raquo; 9 Reasons why Dollhouse Season 2 is a Good Thing
A good list of reasons why season 2 of Dollhouse is a good thing. I like that they’ve actually highlighted Eliza as being a weak link in the show. Damn straight.

» We’ll be back (maybe) says Fox insider about Terminator cancellation
I don’t think I believe this at all, but apparently there might be some wiggle room and a reversal on the termination of The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Hmm…. maybe, I’d like to hope so, but I’d rather not get my hopes up.

» CW says Supernatural May not be entering Final Season
Now this annoys me. Eric Kripke, Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki have all said that this will be the final season of Supernatural. Yes, CW you’ve got a GREAT thing with this show, but don’t flog a dead horse! Or wait, Supernatural isn’t a dead horse, but don’t let it turn into one!

» TV Shows that Ended too Early
Angel, Firefly and The Sarah Connor Chronicles all make the list.

» Televisionary Review the pilot of Amy’s Happy Town
Televisionary have a fairly mixed review on Amy Acker’s new pilot Happy Town.

I was living in fear that it would be one of the oh so naked shots of Eliza, but happy it isn’t. Hopefully I’ll be picking up my very special copy at this year’s SDCC!

And in unrelated news, I am very happy to hear that CW has renewed Supernatural for a fifth season! A truly underrated TV show, but one that’s really hit it’s stride this season. Woo!
